AMDeC in Action
AMDeC Continues to Drive Collaborative Biomedical Research in New York with Placement of Agilent Mass Spectrometer at Mount Sinai School of Medicine
January 13, 2010NEW YORK, Jan. 13, 2010 -- AMDeC, the Academy for Medical Development and Collaboration, announced today that Agilent Technologies, Inc. will place an Agilent 6460 triple quadrupole mass spectrometer at Mount Sinai School of Medicine for the use of AMDeC’s membership of 28 biomedical research institutes in New York. AMDeC spearheaded the placement of the technology through the organization’s purchasing agreement with Agilent.
Beginning February 2010, researchers statewide will have access to the instrument, which enables users toquantify pharmaceutical candidates, to measure trace-level environmental or food contaminants, and to measure proteins in samples. The latter involves the specific characterization of tissues that could lead to the discovery of new clinically relevant biomarkers. The instrument will be an additional component of AMDeC’s scientific resources, which provide members access to innovative and cost-effective technology platforms.
“Once again, AMDeC is leading the way with collaborative success in the laboratory through the provision of technology that many research institutes want but cannot afford on their own, ” said Maria Mitchell, Ph.D., president and CEO of AMDeC. “This is another example of how AMDeC has taken a proactive approach to bringing researchers together and equipping them with what they need to drive their programs. While the NIH and other organizations tout their collaboration initiatives, AMDeC is one of the only entities that has made true collaboration a reality in the form of multi-institutional team science.”
Mount Sinai School of Medicine and other member institutes submitted responses to a Request for Proposal (RFP) requested by AMDeC. The proposals were then reviewed by Agilent and peer-reviewed by researchers outside of the AMDeC membership. Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s application reflected the best scientific applications and a solid plan for making the technology broadly available to AMDeC’s members.
“We are proud to support the many diverse groups and life science research projects which will be enabled through this collaboration,” said Ken Miller, Agilent senior marketing director, Life Science Group. “We look forward to the very productive contribution that this state-of-the-art triple quadrupole LC/MS system will make to the AMDeC community.”
