Seven ROAD Abstracts Accepted for Presentation at 2010 PAS and 2010 Endocrine Society Meetings
April 29, 2010Based on the latest data from AMDeC’s ROAD Project, seven abstracts have been accepted for presentation at the 2010 Annual PAS and Endocrine Society Meetings.
The three abstracts that will be presented at the 2010 PAS Annual Meeting from May 1st through 4th in Vancouver highlight novel and more sensitive methods of assessing the risk factors for multiple adiposity-related co-morbidities in children. These abstracts and their respective presenters/first authors are:
* Fasting serum IGFBP-1 with fasting serum insulin is a more sensitive marker of insulin resistance and hypertriglyceridemia in children. Presenter: Rishi Gupta, MD, Maimonides Medical Center.
*Waist circumference z-scores are better correlates of multiple adiposity-related co-morbidity risk factors than BMI z-scores in early adolescence. Presenter: Minu George, MD, Maimonides Medical Center.
*Waist Circumference is a Better Marker than BMI in Predicting Body Fat and Insulin Sensitivity in Middle School Children. Presenter: Minu George, MD, Maimonides Medical Center.
The four abstracts that will be presented at the 2010 Endocrine Society Annual Meeting which is scheduled to meet from June 19th through 22nd in San Diego, California describe relationships of adiposity-related co-morbidities in children to multiple molecules which have only recently been identified as co-morbidity risk factors in adults. Some of these molecules have not been previously studied in children. These abstracts and their respective presenters/first authors are:
*Plasma Advanced Glycation End Products And Their Correlation With Anthropometric Measurements And Inflammatory Markers In Middle School Age Children. Presenter: Lesly Michel, MD, Winthrop- University Hospital.
*Vitamin D and Osteocalcin are Associated with Insulin Sensitivity and Fat Mass in Healthy Middle School Children. Presenter: Claudia C. Boucher-Berry, MD, North Shore- LIJ Health System.
*Retinol Binding Protein 4 is Associated with Markers of Adiposity-Related Co-Morbidities in Children. Presenter: Rushika M. Conroy, MD, Columbia University Medical Center.
*Normal Alanine Transferase: An Independent Indicator of Adiposity Related Co-Morbidity in Youth. Presenter: Michelle L. Klein, MD, Mount Sinai School of Medicine
The primary authors of these abstracts are enthusiastic and dedicated young investigators who will be the future leaders in the battle against obesity and its co-morbidities. We are especially delighted to congratulate Dr. Lesly Michel and Dr. Claudia Boucher-Berry for the recognition that has been given to their work. Dr. Michel was selected by the Endocrine Society from thousands of first authors to receive an “Outstanding Abstract” Award which will be presented to him at the Endocrine Society Meeting. Dr. Boucher-Berry received a Clinical Fellows Travel Grant, supported through Genentech.
